Do you take donations?

YES! At Birdhouse Books, we aim to keep used and vintage books circulating in the community. As a small independent business, we thrive on receiving donations. If you would like to donate used books, please contact us at birdhousebookstore@gmail.com. Let us know approximately how many books or boxes you have, and what types of books they are.

Do you offer store credit for donations?

We provide a shop discount of 20% off same-day purchases in exchange for book donations. We generally do not give store credit or buy books, although there are exceptions to every rule. If you are expecting cash or store credit for books, PLEASE give us a call beforehand and let us know what type of books you are looking to sell. Calls are not required for donations, but are appreciated.

What genres/types of books are you looking for?

We stock just about every genre of book, and are looking for the same; this includes literary fiction, nonfiction (biographies, art books, etc.), mysteries, philosophy, science fiction, children’s books, poetry, and more! We do not accept donations of large textbooks, encyclopedias, dictionaries, or other reference books, and we ask that you call ahead if you are planning to bring by more than 3 boxes. While we will take a look at books of all conditions, please do not donate us items with heavy smoke odor, mold or mildew, or excessive dirt and stains.

Are you downstairs? Is there elevator access?

We are below the cafe space, and therefore downstairs. Unfortunately, the only way to access our store is via stairs. The building is on the historic registry, so the landlord is not required to build additional paths of access (such as an elevator). We want to work with all community members to promote access to our store, however, and offer online shopping and curbside pickup for folks who may be unable to reach us upstairs. Just give us a call or email to set up a pickup time!

Do you fill special or bulk orders?

Yes! Just contact us with information regarding the book’s title, author, as well as edition and number of copies wanted, if applicable.

In the past, we have fulfilled bulk orders of used books for educators, book clubs, and more. We can ship these orders, and also offer in store pickup.

What parking is available near you?

We are fortunate to be located in an area with ample parking! There is lots of on-street parking directly surrounding the building, as well as a free for two hours lot on Evergreen, just a block from the bookstore. More information can be found on the City of Vancouver’s website and on Parkopedia.
